What is a Climate?

The climate is the general weather condition over a long period. This can include rainfall, temperature, snow, or any other weather condition. We usually define a region’s climate over 30+ years.

There are many other climatic elements, including:
Precipitation
Humidity
Hours of Sunshine
Wind velocity

What is the weather?

Weather is the state of the atmosphere, including temperature, atmospheric pressure, wind, humidity, precipitation, and cloud cover.

What is the difference between Climate and Weather?

The major difference between weather and climate is the timescale. Weather occurs over hours days or weeks. Climate, however, refers to the average of all weather over a much longer period, usually over 30 years.

What is a climate change?

Climate change is a term used by climate scientists when describing the way that both weather and climate systems are changing as a result of human activities across the world.

There are a lot of different environmental changes that are happening as a result of climate change, some are big and some are small.

These include:
Shrinking glaciers
Rising sea Levels
Shifting of locations of Plant species
Animal Species extinction
Trees and plants flowering much earlier in the year

Global Climate

Climate is a trend of temperature and weather in a place or area over a long period.

There are different climate zones in the world. Some are hotter, some are cooler.

Global Warming:

Is part of Climate change and is concerned with the rising temperatures of the Earth.

How we can help the Environment?

The environment is the natural world. To help the environment we can

- Think about how our lives and actions affect the natural world.

- All make small changes that will help the environment, if everyone in the world made one small change to help the environment, imagine the positive difference we could make!

What can we do?

There are plenty that we can do at an individual level as well as supporting change at a higher level.

Think of what might help and then check some of our ideas below...

  • Do not waste water.
  • Use cars less and walk or cycle more.
  • Create less rubbish
  • Recycle possible things that can be recycled.
  • Take your shopping bags to shops.
  • Do not leave electrical items on ‘standby’.
  • Look at how ‘green’ your diet is.
  • Use less plastic.
  • Look for sustainable labels on items, such as checking for sustainable palm oil.
  • Less water is used from Rivers, lochs, and reservoirs
  • Less energy is needed to clean and pump the wastewater.
  • Use Both Sides of the paper when you are drawing or writing
  • This helps to save trees, as paper is made from trees.
  • Trees are significant to the environment as they absorb a gas called carbon dioxide gas and create a gas called oxygen. Remember that we need oxygen to breathe.
  • Walk instead of Going by Car
  • Walking is good exercise and helps you to stay fit and healthy.
  • Cars produce harmful gases that can damage the environment
  • Use a Refillable Water Bottle
  • Sort and Recycle your Rubbish

What does recycling mean?

Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects. This concept often includes the recovery of energy from waste materials.

For example, when you finish reading a newspaper and put it in the recycling bin, it is taken to a factory and turned back into a new paper that can be used again.
